My first two years at CBRE have been a steep learning curve, but an exciting and diverse challenge.
Following several work experience placements in various professions I decided on a career in property. Having completed a Geography Degree at Newcastle University I knew that I needed to complete a RICS accredited degree. CBRE offered me the opportunity to work towards both my MSc and APC simultaneously, sponsoring my part time study at Kingston University.
I joined CBRE in 2008 and spent 18 months in the valuation department, first in the Retail Valuation team where I gained valuable experience across all retail sectors predominantly shopping centres, high street retail and food stores, and after that in the West End Investment Valuation team. From client sports days to valuing hundred million pound properties, work was varied and diverse.
More recently, I moved to West End Tenant Advisory Group. Working alongside a team of six West End agents, we search for, negotiate and acquire office space on behalf of corporate occupiers. The transactional side of the business is fast paced and everyday brings new challenges and instructions.
As a result of CBRE’s large market share I have had the opportunity to work on some high-profile projects, which may not have been possible at another firm. Try to keep an open mind as to which aspect of the business you want to specialise in; the CBRE graduate scheme allows you to try several departments, meet and work alongside people at the top of their field.
