Brett White’s speech, CBRE Chairman and CEO
and videos related to each real estate market
We’ve just went through 2 very difficult years for which the consequences will take time to fade away. Even if we think that the lowest point in terms of volume transacted or amount invested has been reached in 2009, the impact of the recession on values, new development and vacancy rate will continue to be felt in 2010.
The most part of analysts seems to think that even if the recession is behind us, the recover will be slow to come. This leads us to look at the situation further 2010 and to question ourselves of what could be the real estate driving factors coping with a slower growth. Challenges are numerous and these are leading to changes and opportunities for the future. The Forum 2010 is entitled "Real estate, Challenges & Future" because this is the right moment for us to change perspective.
Our guest is Christian Blanc, Secretary of State in charge of the developement of Paris region.
We are currently living a troubled period both in the economic and in the real estate sectors. Many people say that the world will be different after this crisis and that we will have to accept some repercussions.
Of course, real estate will not be exempt of these changes. We will try this year to answer to this question: "Does real estate need to be reinvented?"
Our debates were concluded by the speech of Erik Orsenna, member of the Académie Française, who gives us his point of view on the role of crisis in History to put our current difficulties in a long-term perspective.
